Long term thinking during Covid

We all know how valuable good project management is.

In larger companies with complex projects, there can be one or more project managers in place to make sure that milestones are reached and troubleshoot problems to not jeopardize the overall long term goal.

When times get stressful, specifically with unprecedented new challenges like with the current Covid 19 situation, it’s easy and totally understandable for an organization to lose focus on the long term goals, because everybody is so focused on extinguishing the daily fires.

 But this is the time to keep focused and continue pressing toward these  long term goals, specifically the decisions and steps that need to be done early. Missing the early deadlines can have significant impacts later in the project – if it makes it that far.

Make sure to spend the time to look at the challenges your team members face with working from home, while also having the kids at home and making sure learning is somehow continuous. It is a stressful time for people of any culture.

Empathy and collaboration with team members, and maybe even neighbors and friends will help.

We at Grumpy Lemon are also feeling this challenge. Our team of expert professionals with different backgrounds and different experiences – what we call diversity – are facing these challenges too. We are a team spread out over four countries and working together only online using online platforms even with our customers. Giving each other grace, and continuing with a sense of humor has helped us face this together, and I’d say – even brought us closer as a team.

Hopefully somewhere in the future personal contact with our customers will be possible without causing health risks.

Until then we will continuously work to improve our online capabilities, and perhaps there are even some positive effects on cost. 

In summary:

 – Never forget your goals short term and long term

 – Always rethink your strategies if corrections are needed

 – Keep thinking and changing because if there are no more changes then you have a standstill. Standstill is the same as going backwards in todays world and your business.
